The AT-SONDE level electrode is an accessory that connects to a DSN motor protection box, level control relay such as AT-DR07 or AT-DR50 using a single-core cable = 1 x 1.5 mm², to detect water absence or presence. Indeed, upon contact with the liquid, the AT-SONDE level electrode allows current to flow to the relay. All with very fast response times.

Cylindrical in shape and compact in size, the AT-SONDE level electrode allows water level monitoring in narrow spaces such as wells or boreholes.

The electrodes can be used for level detection with one electrode or with three electrodes, for level control in drainage or filling installations.

The installation height corresponds to the water level to be controlled.

Operating principle

 

Detection or control

A water detection electrode is a conductivity sensor.

It operates on the following principle:

Water is slightly conductive, especially if it contains mineral salts. The electrode is immersed in the liquid and connected to an electronic module (relay or controller).

When water touches the electrode, a small current flows between the electrode and ground or between several electrodes. The electronic module interprets this current as water presence and activates an output (relay contact).

The AT-SONDE electrode can be used in two operating modes: Level detection or level control.

 

Level control (automatic control between two thresholds)

This control mode maintains the water level between two thresholds: a low level and a high level.

Two electrodes are placed at different heights to control the water level. A third electrode, called reference electrode (ground), is installed at the lowest level.

  • When water drops below the low level electrode (L1), the relay triggers filling (pump start or solenoid valve opening).
  • When water reaches the high level electrode (L2), filling stops automatically (pump stop or solenoid valve closing).

The control relay, according to its predefined wiring (NC - Normally Closed or NO - Normally Open), directly controls the pump or solenoid valve.


This principle creates a natural hysteresis between the two levels, thus preventing too frequent pump starts and stops, which extends its lifespan and ensures more stable operation.
