Wastewater level control in confined spaces
The SOBA SMALL is a liquid level regulator, technically similar to the SOBA model, but specially designed for small tanks or confined spaces.
It detects the reaching of a level by tilting, which activates an electrical contact connected to a control panel. This contact allows opening or closing the power supply circuit for pumps, alarms or other control devices.
By using at least two floats per tank (one for the low level, the other for the high level), it is possible to achieve complete level control. Thanks to its robust design, the SOBA SMALL level regulator is ideal in applications where magnetic level controllers are not suitable, particularly in the presence of impurities or deposits likely to block the floats.
The SOBA SMALL level regulator is supplied with a 250 g filled resin ballast, adjustable on the cable. This ballast facilitates the adjustment of the switching point and allows optimal operation over a wide range of liquid densities.

Drainage or FillingThe SOBA SMALL level regulator operates on the principle of tilt-based level detection. When the liquid reaches a certain predefined level, the pear-shaped float switch tilts, causing the opening or closing of an integrated mechanical switch according to the chosen operating mode (filling or drainage). The float is equipped with a three-conductor cable (COM, NO, NC), allowing the operating mode to be selected during wiring: Used in pairs with another float of the same type, the SOBA SMALL level regulator allows regulation of the minimum and maximum levels of a tank.
|
In drainage mode, the SOBA SMALL level switch located at the high level activates the anti-overflow pump start. An electric current passes through the pear-shaped float switch to the connected device (control relay, pumps, valves, alarms).
Once the tank is empty, the level switch in low position cuts the electrical circuit to protect equipment (pumps) in the absence of water in the tank.
In filling mode, the electrical circuit inside closes (NC) when the level switch is in low position. Thus, the pump starts to fill the tank.
Ballast positioningThe triggering of the float level switch (switching angle) can vary depending on liquid agitation, filling/drainage flow rate but especially on the ballast positioning or fixing point. Indeed, the cable length between the counterweight and the float switch determines the amount of liquid that rises or lowers to cause the level switch to change state. You have the possibility to adjust the counterweight on the device cable to optimize its operation. |
You have the possibility to adjust the counterweight on the device cable. Thus the greater the distance between the ballast and the float, the greater the level difference will be, and consequently, the greater the switching angle will be.
This allows the pear-shaped float switch to adapt to possible turbulence in the liquid but also allows the float to work in a wide range of densities.
Below are indicative values for the SOBA SMALL level regulator with a minimum and maximum cable length ensuring correct operation :
Min. value Y = 10cm > X ≈ 20-25 CM
Max. value Y = 30cm > X ≈ 40-45 CM
To adjust the ballast on the cable, simply pull on the plastic or resin ballast to clip it onto the clamping ring or O-ring. Then, slide the clamping ring/O-ring to the desired location and replace the ballast on it, so that the weight is locked on the cable.
|
Float fixingThe float level switch can be suspended via the cable sheath, using as support the fixing accessory FIXCAB, which allows to correctly fix the electrical cable at the desired height and allows precise adjustment at any time. Be careful when using clamps or other elements during fixing that can damage the cable and deteriorate the device by letting water enter inside the float level switch by capillarity.

Electrical connectionIn outdoor or humid spaces, wiring must be waterproof and properly insulated. This prevents water infiltration that could compromise the safety of electrical connections as well as the lifespan of the float level switch. The electrical junction box must never be placed inside the tank. We equip our pear-shaped float switches with the cable length you want to avoid connections that would harm their operation. |
Unlike flat sensors, the SOBA SMALL level regulator offers omnidirectional detection. Its shape allows it to react to water movements regardless of its position in the liquid.
The SOBA SMALL level regulator is equipped as standard with a 250 g loaded resin ballast essential for proper float operation. It determines the rotation point according to the desired liquid levels.
The shape of the SOBA SMALL float level switch, in copolymer polypropylene, is specially designed to prevent the accumulation of impurities on its surface, thus preserving its performance and longevity over time. No maintenance is required.
