ATS 165

The level switch that keeps its cool in the storm

The float that keeps its cool in the storm

The ATS 165 float level switch is a dry contact level switch, designed for automatic control of pumps or alarm devices in clear water tanks, heavily agitated wastewater or with intense turbulence.

It can detect both high and low levels in the same tank with hysteresis not exceeding 1.5 m, ensuring precise and reliable operation.

This model is also available in ACS-certified version, intended for use in drinking water for human consumption: see the ATS 165 EP level switch.

⚠️ Warning: the ATS 165 level switch is not recommended for slow filling rates. In this case, prefer the AQUA or SOBA range level switches, more suitable for this type of application.

100% French design and manufacturing.

Operating principle

Drainage or Filling

The AT 165 level switch operates on the principle of tilt-based level detection.
The float moves freely up and down with the liquid level in the tank.

When the liquid reaches a predefined level, the float tilts, causing the opening or closing of an integrated mechanical switch according to the selected operating mode (filling or drainage).

The float is equipped with a three-conductor cable (COM, NO, NC), allowing the operating mode to be selected during wiring:

Used in pairs with another float of the same type, it allows regulation of the minimum and maximum levels of a tank.

Drainage mode

In drainage mode, the level switch activates the pump in the high position (overflow protection). An electric current flows through the float to the connected device (control relay, pumps, valves, alarms).

Once the tank is empty, the level switch cuts the electrical circuit to protect the equipment (pumps) in the absence of water in the tank.

Filling mode

In filling mode, the electrical circuit inside the switch closes (NC) when the switch is in the low position. Thus, the pump starts to fill the tank.

Installation guide

Ballast positioning

The triggering of the float level switch (switching angle) may vary depending on liquid agitation, filling/drainage flow rate, but mainly depending on the ballast positioning or fixing point. Indeed, the cable length between the counterweight and the float switch determines the amount of liquid that rises or falls to cause the float switch to change state.

You can adjust the counterweight on the device cable to optimize its operation.

You can adjust the counterweight on the device cable; the greater the distance between the ballast and the float, the greater the level difference will be, consequently the greater the switching angle will be.

This allows the float to adapt to possible turbulence in the liquid but also allows the float to work in a wide range of densities.

Here are indicative values for the ATS 165 with minimum and maximum cable length to ensure proper operation:

Min. value Y = 10cm > X ≈ 45-50 CM

Max. value Y = 30cm > X ≈ 75-80 CM

To adjust the ballast on the cable, simply pull on the plastic or resin ballast to unclip it from the clamp ring or O-ring. Then slide the clamp ring/O-ring to the desired location and replace the ballast on top, so that the weight is locked on the cable.

Float fixing

The float level switch can be suspended via the cable sheath, using the FIXCAB fixing accessory, which allows correct fixing of the electrical cable at the desired height and allows precise adjustment at any time.

Be careful when using clamps or other elements during fixing that may damage the cable and deteriorate the device by allowing water to enter the float level switch by capillary action.

Electrical connection

In outdoor or humid spaces, the electrical connection of the float level switch must be watertight and properly insulated in a hermetic box, thus preventing water or other contaminants from entering the cable. This prevents water infiltration that could compromise the safety of electrical connections as well as the float's lifespan.

The electrical connection box must never be placed inside the tank. The cable and its capillary can be extended using a standard signal cable.

We equip our floats with the cable length you desire to avoid connections that would impair their operation.

Key features

Omnidirectional detection

ATMI
[ zoom ]

Unlike flat sensors, the ATS 165 level switch offers omnidirectional detection. Its shape allows it to react to water movements regardless of its position in the liquid.

This ensures more reliable detection, especially in agitated environments or those subject to turbulence.

Biconical shape

Biconical shape

The shape of the ATS 165 float level switch, made of copolymer polypropylene, is specially designed to prevent impurities from accumulating on its body, thus preserving its performance and longevity over time. No maintenance required.
