ATMI and the SOBA level regulatorATMI was founded in 1973, initially as an independent service of a company specialized in pumping. The company was born from the passion of its founder, Mr. Roland RUQUIER, for water and solutions dedicated to its management. Very quickly, he specialized in the design and manufacture of float level sensors, a technology that is both reliable, simple and economical. His technical, commercial and relational skills would later make ATMI the market leader thanks to his sense of innovation and the conviction that a system based on simplicity of installation, reliability and quality would meet the majority of liquid applications in industrial environments. This is how the SOBA level regulator was designed, first equipped with a mercury bulb and then, always complying with current and environmental standards, with an alternative mechanical system. This float level sensor would be available in different versions, including the "Hypalon" version for special chemical resistance with its double jacket and later in ATEX certified version for explosive atmospheres. A solid technological base that would make ATMI a future market leader.

It was while observing his coffee cup during breakfast that Mr. RUQUIER, always totally and passionately invested in his work, had the idea of a "float" operating by tilt, which would allow level control in solid environments and stopping the filling of tanks and silos.
The SOLIBA float level sensor range was born...
This innovation opened the doors of a new industrial market for ATMI for solid level detection. The range of level sensors for solids would gradually develop into several versions to meet the different constraints of bulk materials.
Obtaining ATEX certificationsATMI obtained ATEX certification issued by LCIE for the liquid level regulator SOBA EX and the solid level detector SOLIBA EX. This official recognition attests to the reliability of products in explosive atmospheres. More than 25 years later, these certifications are still renewed, demonstrating ATMI's constant commitment to industrial safety.

BIP STOP level switchATMI moved to its current site in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, in the Yvelines region near Paris, which serves as both a manufacturing plant for all products and administrative and sales offices. This same year saw the birth of BIP STOP, a level switch designed for small pumps and cellar drains. Simple, reliable and affordable, it is today the most popular and best-selling model worldwide!

ISO 9001 CertificationATMI obtained ISO 9001 version 2000 certification for the first time, recognizing the company's organization, process control, and commitment to continuous improvement. This has continued to be the case for over 20 years of evolution with certification in version 2015.

The ACS range for use in drinking water intended for human consumption was launched with several models, all certified by a health laboratory.
Several models obtained health certification issued by an approved laboratory. This step marked ATMI's commitment to combining technical performance and health safety, values that still guide new designs.
Birth of the AQUA rangeThe first models of self-ballasted regulators (with integrated ballast) were born from a drawing by ATMI's founder on a tablecloth during a team lunch. This was the start of the AQUA range which met market needs both technically and in search of a more economical solution in a difficult and fragile economic context.

AQUA XL, the star of self-ballasted floatsThe famous AQUA XL, star of self-ballasted regulators, was released and met with great success that continues to this day! This model has become a reference for many pumping stations and water management installations. Over the years, the ranges have continued to expand and models have evolved and improved technically.

ATMI was acquired in May 2018 by Mr. Roland RUQUIER's assistant, his right hand, who had worked by his side since November 2004. She perpetuates the spirit of innovation and the founding values of the company.
Mr. RUQUIER passed away in 2023, leaving behind a major industrial legacy.
A world leader in float level sensorsAfter more than 50 years of existence, ATMI offers 6 major ranges of level sensors for liquids, solids and powdered materials with approximately 20 types of products available in more than 50 versions adapted to the most demanding environments. ATMI is today the French leader and one of the world leaders in float level sensors that can operate in drinking water as well as in corrosive liquids, aggressive liquids or hydrocarbons, positioning the company as a unique player in its market.
