Wastewater Level Control

A float level switch for pumping station is a device that automatically controls the operation of a pumping station used for evacuating loaded or agitated wastewater.

ATMI, French leader in float level control, offers float level switch solutions for pumping station water from a septic tank, a sump, a flooded cellar, or any other location likely to fill with water. One or more floats installed at the pumping station level will regulate the water level in the tank via an electrical control panel. When the float level switch tilts, the pump(s) start to extract the water. Here are the different operating stages of a float level switch for pumping station:

Water Level Detection

The pumping station float is designed to float on the water surface. It is attached to the pump by a cable or rod. When the water level rises in the pit or sump, the float also rises.

Pumping Station Activation

When the float level switch reaches a certain predefined level (the start level), it activates a switch that turns on the pumping station. This activation can be done by an internal mechanism in the float that closes an electrical circuit, thus sending current to the pump to start operating.

Water Pumping

Once activated, the pumping station begins to evacuate water out of the flooded area to a location where water can be safely eliminated, such as a sewer system or watercourse.

Pumping Station Deactivation

When the water level drops sufficiently and reaches a predetermined level (the stop level), the float level switch also descends. Once it reaches this low level, it deactivates the switch, which cuts the electrical power to the pump and stops water pumping.

Repetitive Cycle

This process repeats each time the water level rises to the float's start level. This allows automatic operation of the pumping station without manual intervention, which is particularly useful in situations where the water level can vary frequently.

Pumping station floats are available in several types, including ball floats, vertical floats, and electronic floats, each with its own advantages and specific applications. The selection of float type depends on the specific application, the type of liquid to be pumped, and the installation requirements.

Discover ATMI Floats for Pumping Station

In its wide range of float level switch, ATMI offers two floats specifically adapted to pumping stations.

Pumping Station Float for Loaded Wastewater

The float level switch AQUA XL is a self-ballasted level regulator for loaded wastewater. This self-ballasted float level regulator with internal ballast is extremely robust. Thus, thanks to its weight (775g) and volume, the float level switch is perfectly suited for starting and/or stopping multiple pumps in wastewater and sewage pumping stations, where thick layers of grease can sometimes form on the surface.

Pumping Station Float for Agitated Wastewater

The float level switch BIP STOP is a level switch for detecting agitated wastewater level. This level switch with "On/Off" type float allows automation of small pumping stations either directly (up to 1.5 HP) thanks to its 20 A (400V) microswitch or unlimited through a relay. Thanks to its large differential angle of 110°, the BIP STOP level switch allows establishing a level contact without jerking on pump motors and electrical devices in highly agitated liquids. Also, it allows detecting both high level and low level in the same tank whose hysteresis does not exceed 1.5 m.
